The FINAL Funky Fresh Friday: The Narnia Closet

Funky Fresh Friday
Well friends, this is it. The very LAST Funky Fresh Friday! We have been closed to the public for a couple of weeks now, but we've been feverishly working on a few last custom projects for some wonderful customers, and we wanted to share this very special one with you.

Before we do, however, we also wanted to remind you that Kristina's new store Amuse will be open for a sneak preview (dare we say an Amuse Bouche!) this weekend during the Ithaca Festival! Here are all the details:

Who: You, your friends, your mom, your friends' moms...everyone!

What: Sneak preview of Kristina's new store
Amuse: Modern Cottage Industry
Kristina will have a sampling of some of the great items that she is carrying in the store available for purchase! Come check out the new space and great items (all still a work in progress, but we wanted to show it off a little for all the Ithaca Festival peeps!). Kristina is also offering 10% off all gift certificate purchases of $10 or more (to be used any time on or after our official Grand Opening on July 1st!).

Where: Amuse is located in Press Bay Alley at 118 W. Green Street, right next to Life's So Sweet Chocolates!

When: Saturday, May 31st from 10am-7pm
        Sunday, June 1st from 10am-5pm

Why: Because it will be awesome and amazing and AMUSING! We just couldn't wait until our grand opening on July 1st to show you all this cool stuff we have (and also it's overtaking Kristina's house, so she really wanted to move it all into the store).

Okay, now on to our upcycle for the week! You may remember this post we did back in April about a beautiful purple dresser we upcycled for MojoWoman. This week's piece is also for MojoWoman, and we're so excited to share it with you!

We call this piece the "Narnia Closet." Now, you may be asking yourself "what's so special about this thing? It' looks like kind of a piece of junk!" Well folks, that's the magic of upcycling! This piece WAS kind of a piece of junk, and now it's AMAZING! This piece truly represents our journey over the last couple of years here at Funky Fresh, in a very literal way.

This piece was LITERALLY the very first piece that David and Kristina bought and moved into the original Funky Junk store on the Commons when they opened two years ago. And now, it is literally the LAST piece of furniture that they sold and upcycled before closing Funky Fresh and moving on to new and exciting ventures. How cool is that? It's a true full-circle moment.

And now, here is the Narnia Closet today, in its new home at MojoWoman!

We removed the old, busted doors and took out all the little hooks that lined the inside of the closet. The inside of the closet is painted in CeCe Caldwell's Vintage White. The outside is a custom color that was achieved my mixing CeCe Caldwell's Destin Gulf Green and Maine Harbor Blue. A clothing bar on the inside and brand new knobs finish off the look. Gorgeous!

Thank you for joining us on this awesome journey over the last two years. Please visit us at Amuse...we can't wait to see your friendly faces at our new store! Don't forget to head over to Facebook and "like" Amuse to stay up to date!

Funky Fresh Friday

Funky Fresh Friday
It's that time of the week again, folks! We have two great upcycles to share. These are both custom jobs, so unfortunately you can't purchase them...just eye candy!

Our first upcycle this week is this old dresser that was desperately in need of an update!

We painted spruced it up using CeCe Caldwell's Sedona Red and Vermont Slate paints. The original hardware was cleaned up and reinstalled.

We think it came out just fabulous! Here it is, waiting for it's new owner to come collect it.

Our second upcycle is this chic bed frame. We forgot to take a before picture (oops!), so you'll just have to imagine this bed frame looking super boring. I know, kind of hard now that it looks so fabulous, right?!
This beauty was painted using CeCe Caldwell's Maine Harbor Blue. What a great color!

Come down to the store and pick out a piece to upcycle yourself! All of our vintage and antique furniture and household items are on sale for 20% off in our giant store closing sale!!

Funky Fresh Friday

Funky Fresh Friday

Today's Funky Fresh Friday upcycle is a custom job for one of our wonderful customers! We upcycled this old dresser to go in her store, MojoWoman! MojoWoman is an Ithaca store specializing in natural fiber clothing for women, located on South Fulton Street. Check it out!

Here's the before...

In progress! Kristina mixed up a custom color for this one-of-a-kind piece.

The beautiful eggplant color is achieved by mixing CeCe Caldwell's New Orleans Purple and Vermont Slate.

The knobs were painted and texturized using CeCe Caldwell's Pittsburgh Gray and finished with CeCe Caldwell's amazing Metallic Wax, giving them their gorgeous shimmery sheen.

We think the finished product is absolutely STUNNING! Head over to MojoWoman and see it in person, and of course check out the beautiful natural fiber clothing.

UP NEXT for MojoWoman:
We call this piece the "Narnia Closet." It's big, it's awesome, and it's getting upcycled! The folks at MojoWoman have commissioned Kristina to turn it into a beautiful clothing display fixture for their store. Hanging bars will be installed, and the inside will be painted with CeCe Caldwell's Vintage White. The outside will be a custom teal color, mixed from CeCe Caldwell's Destin Gulf Green and Maine Harbor Blue. We can't wait to share it with you once it's done!
